Day 3 – January 3 Sand Dollar

During my walk yesterday on Plum Island, my friend happened to have a keen eye toward “sand dollar” fish.  No idea what their official name is.  He picked up a few and I brought this one home with me.  No worries, by the time we found them, they were well on their way to fish heaven.  It’s amazing as I look at it that it was once a living creature!  The little guy really liked to store sand too – it seems to fall out from it’s backside whenever I move it.  I think I’ll let it rest on a shelf in my kitchen above my sink and I’ll be reminded of the ocean every time I see it.

the sand dollar fish is way too cool. I always look for sand dollars in Fla, but we
don’t find thme very often on the east coast.
