Day 30 – January 30 Longaberger

Originally I had this grand plan of going to photograph an old, beautiful church in town, just as the sun was setting.  The color in the sky during the winter is a magnificent blue at that time of day…. when it’s not cloudy!!  Of course, the clouds have set in and I had to find an alternate plan.  I was looking at one of my Longaberger baskets and decided to photograph it, at the bottom.  The story of Dave Longaberger is amazing.  You can look it up online and read about him and the hand woven basket company he created that is now managed by his daughters since Dave’s death.  I have visited their facility in Dresdin, Ohio and it really is all about craftsmanship.  In a day and age of high tech toys and machinery to make them, Longaberger goes back to the basics and is proud of it.  Each person that has played a part in making that basket has signed their initials in the bottom, taking pride in their work.  Sometimes, going back to the basics is a good thing.
