Day 76 – March 17 Traditions (Irish Ones, To Be Exact)

Most everyone knows that today is St. Patrick’s Day.  I didn’t realize what a big party could be had on this day until I moved to the New England area.  There are so many Irish immigrants and decendents in this area that the everyone, Irish or not, finds a reason to celebrate today.  Not that it’s a bad thing!  One of the advantages is local restaurants catering to the holiday and serving, for just one day, the traditional boiled dinner.  Yes, corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots…. boiled.  It’s actually quite yummy!  I guess that it’s more of an Irish-American dish and stemmed from the lower cost of corned beef as compared to pork when there was an influx of Irish immigrants.  Nonetheless, it’s become quite popular and most certainly traditional.  Here’s a picture of a friend’s dinner tonight…
