While it didn’t feel like summer today, it IS summer and with that comes the local sand sculpture competition. This is a “masters” competition and it is by invitation only, I believe. Needless to say, the sculptures were impressive. The detail was incredible and I have no idea how they created some of the things they did. It’s hard to say which will win, but I’m sure that this specific sculpture of the Stanley Cup winning Boston Bruins’ goalie, Tim Thomas (who was the MVP) might get just a few votes from fans. Nothing like playing off the locals a bit. 😉

So amazing what artists can do with sand. Great photo!
Thank you! Yes, it really is amazing what they can do. I learned that they actually trucked in several tons of different type of sand for the sculptures… but otherwise it’s all just water!
That’s amazing!! Honestly, I wish I had more to say than just that, but I’m speechless… 🙂
Fantastic photo!
You’re so kind, thank you! Thanks for visiting! 🙂
so amazing . i like it .
Thank you! 🙂

AMAZING! I love the sculpture! (:
They were all gorgeous – so creative! Thank you for visiting my blog!
Beautiful – I always thought I’d have to mix the sand with epoxy to make anything out of it. Nice pic!
Thanks! Glad you like it. And you too, can do it… just sand and water! 🙂
Impressive indeed. Love that they’re 3D works and nature will eventually reclaim the materials used.
I agree, that is one of the most refreshing parts of it all. Thanks for checking out my little project!
This is amazing how they do it!
I agree, impressive! 🙂
wow! amazing thing! my sand castles weren’t so impressive at all 🙂
that is crazy what people are able to do. masterpiece.
Amazing! Masters indeed.
Sand sculptures are just too cool, you’re lucky that you got to see them!!
It was a fun afternoon and a great excuse for a little ice cream treat too! 🙂
It’s remarkable! I’d love to know more about the planning that goes into these designs.
I can only imagine the planning! They all get the same amount of sand and same amount of time. Otherwise, it’s all up to their imagination! Thanks for visiting!
Nice shot and an impressive sculpture.
Congrats on being FP!
Thank you so much!
AMAZING!!
Sweet! I felt Thomas’ story was one of the best “New England grit” stories of the year. I don’t normally (or ever really) blog about sports, but I did have to write one about the Bruins championship season this year.
So awesome to see the MVP honored in sand sculpture. The Bruins wouldn’t have been anywhere without Thomas… standing on his head all season… hmmm now THAT would have been impressive in sand!
I agree, total “New England grit”… although, he’s a native Michigander, as am I! 🙂 So while I’m a lifelong, diehard Redwings fan, I do have a special place in my heart for Mr. Thomas. I think the locals here, just an hour north of Boston, were definitely putting their votes in for this one as fan favorite!
These sculptures are beautiful and so crisp in design. I would aware they are alive.
Ray
I’m glad you could feel that. Thanks for checking out my little project!
This is so amazing! Congrats sister! You are an amazing photographer!
Thanks sista! 🙂
That definitely takes talent. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thanks for visiting! 🙂
it really doesnt feel like summers in the picture. Its more like winters there. Nice work. Must have been fun.
It was quite chilly that day, but just a day later it actually felt a little like summer. 😉 Thanks for visiting my blog!
WOW!
Wow! Very impressive! I can’t imagine how long it must take to build such magnificent sand sculptures. Congratulations on being freshly pressed!
Thank you so much! The sculptures were amazing. Glad you dropped by to check it out!

Sand sculptures and hockey? That would be my winner! Awesome photos
Thank you and thanks for visiting! I agree, it’s the best of both worlds!
The NHL season is too short. Thank you for finding a way to lengthen it for the true fan. Being a masters competition please stand by with your camera in case there is a game seven. Well done. Great pic.
Thank you! Glad you dropped by for a visit. I agree, the NHL season always seems too short – although then I find it rather odd that we have the Stanley Cup finals in JUNE! 🙂
awesome!
Thanks! 🙂
Congrats on being selected as one of the Freshly Pressed blogs on the front page of WordPress! Well done!! I’m a fellow New Hampshire-ite – your photos are wonderful. Glad to have found you. Yes, the sand sculptures were wonderful! Best wishes, Robin Boyd
Yey! Glad to have a local visiting my blog! 🙂 Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m sure that if you check out other days, you’ll see some familiar sights. Cheers!
Amazing indeed! So much detail and I can’t even make a simple castle 😛
Found a similar contest in Algarve – Portugal if any of the sculptors is interested: http://fiesa.org/
Glad you dropped by for a visit! I know what you mean about the simple castle. These artists must also work a little magic too. 😉
Wow it’s so inspiring that people take such trouble over things that really won’t last. Definitely makes me determined to put more energy into my creative projects. Good luck with yours
I’m glad you felt that from the picture! They were working hard and it’s difficult to believe that within days the rain will wash all their hard work away. Yet that’s the beauty of photography, capturing a memory that you can hold onto for a lifetime. 😉
This’s amazing!!
Thanks for checking out my little project!
This is amazing! 🙂 The sand sculpture is so creative!
Thank you for checking it out! Yes, some of the others were just as impressive. Amazing what they can do with just sand and water!
GREAT photo, this looks to be quite an event
And congrats on the freshly pressed! Well deserved, your photos rock 🙂
Aw, thanks Kelly! 🙂
That is a great photo, so interesting!
Thank you for checking out my blog!
Great and Interesting Photo, I like nature and creatures like this.. thank you.
Thanks for visiting! 🙂
This is really amazing…Great shot!!
Thank you!
wow! Where is this? I know of a place called Parksville, British Columbia that hosts an annual sand sculpture building contest – unfortunately I missed it when I was out there, which is too bad if this is a glimpse of what they do!
Thanks for visiting! This contest was part of an annual Masters Contest (US$10,000 prize!!!) at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Impressive, no doubt!
Sand sculpting is really amazing!
I agree with Maria who stated she likes the idea that nature will eventually reclaim the materials used. In a world of material obsession, it’s refreshing to see an installation that will simply disappear. It adds so much to the beauty of this project, and should give us reason to rethink our world of possessions.
I completely agree. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my little project!
Tim Thomas should go to Boracay and give the people there something stunning to look at.
nice! 😀 congrats for being on FP! 😀
Thank you Consuelo!
Wow, what a lot of work and fore sight, and such creativity.
I agree, they were all very creative!
Amazing the sand art, ang pretty good your photo.
…by the way congrats for being Freshly Pressed.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
Amazing….
Thanks Andri!
Nevertheless, by just looking at the photo, i believe all of their works are exceptional… need i say more?
The art was really amazing…I think that is the eight wonder of the world

I agree, the art was impressive! Thanks for visiting my blog!
The medium of art is so diverse and you have captured it beautifully with your camera. Good photo and congrats on being freshly pressed!
That’s so kind of you, thank you!
nice pics
Thanks! 🙂

Nice photo and amazing effects with the light on the sand sculpture. On the coast here (Vendée, France) there is an annual sand sculpture done as part of a Kid’s Follies week at St. jean de Monts.
Ah, merci beaucoup! 🙂 I am actually taking French classes right now (started studying in school, but have forgotten a lot) and have been to France twice before. Thank you for your kind words and for exploring my little project!
Ha ha I once won a sand castle competition, but was asked not to enter again (my life sized person squashed by giant footprint was too macabre for the other entrants) – certainly not up to the standard of these sculptures. Do you have more photos of the other entries?
Ha..that’s funny! Yes, I do. I’m hoping to post them on my flickr site by this weekend. They were all very impressive!
Nice sculpture! love it~*~*~*~
I love seeing this beautiful art! Thank you for posting.
Thanks for checking out my little project! 🙂
Very nice! Next make one of Roberto Luolongo using Swiss cheese.
Sand sculpting rocks!
Your photos are all amazing. I’m so proud of you!
Thank you Kara! 🙂
arh, lovely
congrats. that is one beautiful photo . It must had been amazing to gaze at them.
Thank you! They were all beautiful… and drew quite the crowds to check them out!
WHAT A NICE PHOTO! HAVE ESTEEM & A LOT OF PRAISE FOR CREATORS OF SCULPTURES
This castle would win my vote! Of course, I’m a huge Bruins fan. I find it amazing that people can make such beautiful sculptures out of sand. I’m not that talented but I always enjoy going to Revere Beach in MA to see their sandcastle competition every summer. What beach did you take this photo at?
Ah yes, Revere Beach! I don’t usually venture down in that area too much, although I do make it into the city regularly enough. This photo was taken at the Hampton Beach Master Sculpture competition. Hampton, NH, that is. Thanks for visiting my little project Meaghan! 🙂
really very nice work
Thanks!
Love the pictures of teh sand sculpture. It amazes me how they can create the things they do…totally awesome!
Thank you, and thanks for checking out my little project! 🙂
This is incredible! I would have loved to be there myself as I am obsessed with works of sand art. I still have that dream of creating the world’s largest sand castle, but you see, I can’t even make a decent small sand castle. I guess I’ll just stick with drooling with ooh’s and aah’s over some lovely photos of sand art such as the one you’ve posted here. Thank you, by the way! 🙂
They were certainly impressive works of art! Thanks for checking out my blog! 🙂
Great photo, pretty amazing.
Thanks Zach! I agree – pretty amazing! 🙂
This is sick!
Thanks Zak! 🙂
hahaha this is awesome!
Thanks Andrew, it was quite a site!
Wonderful art form, I have a deep respect for these sand artists because the material is hard to work with and the weather elements are a constant threat. Great post!
I agree, their work is exceptional and they handle the issues with the elements very nicely. Thanks for visiting my blog!
