Day 225 – August 13 Thunderbirds

Today I spent the day at an air show and the “headlining act” was the U.S. Airforce Thunderbirds.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to see them, I highly recommend it!  There were several performances before them and it was a long, hot day in the sun.  I snapped about 100 photos and was going to share a few, but this is the one that really caught my eye.  This is 2 of the 6 Lockheed-Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons that make up the Thunderbirds, doing a mirror image maneuver.  It was amazing how close they got to each other and how precise they were.  I was listening to an interview yesterday and one of the pilots said that they can get as close to 18″ apart.  This one is interesting and defies the basic concepts of airplanes…but as we know, these planes are anything but basic.  What a perfect (and kind of scary!) mirror image!

Hey that’s a great shot. I was there and did not get to see that. I had to do a double take on the photo just to be sure it was two planes. Very cool.

I’m like a little kid in a candy store watching those planes do that stuff!
    Great Shot!
